Kris Larsen sailed 45,000 miles of the Indian Ocean and Western Pacific aboard his 34-foot home-built steel junk Kehaar with no engine, no electricity, no radio, no GPS, and not even a compass. A carpenter by trade, he has sailed from Australia to Madagascar and Japan, navigating by the sun, stars, and sea using skills most sailors have long forgotten.
